App Questions

1. How does the search work?

The Browse section of the App allows you to search for a specific animal. You can also search by "traits". For example, typing it "CO" to find the cougar, may also show the Bald Eagle, the Barred Owl, and more, because they have traits that match "CO" (like courage or cooperation). This allows you to search by traits as well as the animal name.

2. Why would I want to search by an animal trait?

In the same way that animal traits can help us understand what our encounter with them means, you can call upon the animal for assistance. Now, this doesn't mean that if you call upon a bear that it's going to show up in your backyard. It means you can call to them for their energies and use them to help you get through personal obstacles.

You can also call upon them through meditation, and with luck they will appear to you in a vision.
3. What does the random card feature do for me?

You can use the random card as a daily affirmation. Read the description of the totem presented and find how their lessons will apply to your current situation.

Sometimes you won't see right away what it means, but often a situation will arise giving you that "Ah ha!" moment.

Animal Totem Questions

1. Is this for real? Do these animals really having meanings?

Many ancient societies believed that animals held messages. This is apparent in all their teachings, literature, and art of the era. The belief in animal totems is strictly a personal decision. I've found that by listening to what the animals have to say, I give myself an alternative perspective to view my current situation, no matter what it may be.

2. Do all animal encounters have meaning?

I think so.
It's also important to realize that sometimes seeing a bird is just nature being nature. For example, lets say on the way to your car you see a dragonfly. It could be taken as a random act of nature. But, throughout the day you see more dragonflies, and a woman with a dragonfly necklace. I would personally take that as a sign. The key is to look for patterns outside the ordinary. A frog in your garden may not be a sign. If it jumps in front of you, or better yet, on you. Take it as a sign.

Visions are not limited to "reality". You can see animals on TV, in dreams, on billboards, virtually anywhere. The spirit of the animal will try to communicate its message to you however it can. It's up to you to recognize the signs.

3. Injured animals keep showing up in my backyard. What does that mean?

Animals are compasionate. If injured animals are coming to you, it may be that they feel safe. You may have created a natural "sanctuary" for them to come to in order to heal, safe from danger or harm. I'd take this as a great honor that they bestow an enormous amount of trust in you.

4. In my dreams I am chased by an animal. Am I being hunted?

When you are chased by an animal, it is usually called a "Shadow Totem". A Shadow Totem is a reminder that there is possibly something unresolved in your life. The animal itself can help you understand what that is. Shadow Totems will often represent fears, frustrations, anger, pain, or temptations. Take time to understand the animal that is shadowing you.

5. I see a lot of road kill and it really bothers me. Is there anything I can do?

We live in a society where the masses pride progress and the destruction of our natural landscapes. With this danger present, animals tend to get chased from their homes into unfamiliar territories. This results in the injury or death of the animal.

I had the honor of meeting Ted Andrews, the author of Animal Speak. He said what he does is this. He takes a moment to say a little prayer, then asks the universe to release the animals spirit so it can help others.
To this day I still do that.
